Space Shuttle Endeavour blasts off+family history lesson...

Space Shuttle Endeavour blasted into space this evening. This was the first "launch" my girls watched--and they did so hungrily. Even Emilyn pointed at shuttle on the TV screen. The older ones stared wide-eyed, making comments and asking questions. One was, "How can they sleep up there?" and when asked if they would like to go into space one day, they all answered "yes" though Jaci later decided that she might not like to because she'd be afraid of getting burned. This was due to the fire she could see jutting out the back of the shuttle. Daddy assured her that the astronauts do not touch that fire and are safely (thankfully this time!) inside.
Just before blast-off the girls got to speak with their Pepe' on the phone while he was onsite at the launch in person. One of the perks of living in Central FL--the launch pad is right next door.
Daddy also made sure the girls knew that his brother, their Uncle Robert, works on the shuttle.
I was also able to share how when I lived in central FL as a child, we would go outside and look up into the sky, watching any launches LIVE. I of course left out the heartbreaking story of the launch in 6th grade that found us staring into the sky wondering what was wrong when the shuttle appeared to split in two. We'll save that for a much later time.
This is posted with a prayer for safety of the crew in space and for a safe return.
