Appreciating Life

We learned the sad news last Saturday evening that my cousin's partner and father of her unborn child was killed.

Not long after receiving that phone call, the girls (Jaci and Lainey) were in bed. That is, until fireworks started outside at about 9:30 at night. Our village was celebrating 50 years and thus the celebration. I then caught Lainey trying to peek out the shades and down the street. Usually, if the girls got up, we'd ask them to go back to bed (it was past their bedtime). But this night since they were still awake, we decided, "why not" and let them come down in their nighties, put on their flip-flops and join us out front the house.

Such a simple thing, that was a joy of joys for them. Instigated by the mere fact we were alive, and together and able to let them. In fact, we think this was the first time they have seen fireworks live. (Though Jaci admitted while watching that she once watched them through the shades before--that little stinker. And we thought she was asleep!)

This night, we were counting our blessings that we have each other...and silently praying for my cousin and family.

Who can replace such a memory as this? Such an expression of life in the smiles of our children. We thank the Lord for special moments like these.

Yes, we need to celebrate as many "moments" as we can along the way...they go away too fast, and often disappear too suddenly!

Those smiles say it all! And Yes, you definitely need to make as many memories as you can....time does go by so quickly.

Who doesn't love fireworks? I'm sure they had lots of fun doing something a little extra special.
