Emilyn signs!!

We've been exposing Emilyn to some American Sign Language since she was a newborn. For a few months now, we felt sure Emilyn was probably signing the word "Milk" but never knew if it was in context. Well, yesterday, and today she has been using it "in context" and is happy when I "answer" with nursing her.

Yesterday, we found her purposely clapping for the first time and saying "Yay!!" while she did it. She did it several times. We would say "Yay!" and she would start clapping and saying "Yay!!" This is a fun new game for all of us. Her clapping made me realize that since she can put her hands together so well, she'll be able to sign the word "more" anytime now. I didn't realize how soon that would be!...

Today she started using the American Sign Language (ASL) sign for "more". It was during lunch and I was offering her some soft finger foods for the first time. I'd ask if she wanted "more" and she would sign back "more". Jaci and Lainey got a huge kick out of it and took turns asking Emi if she wanted "more" in ASL and then helping to give her more when she reciprocated the sign. The photos above are of Emilyn in 3 quick photos signing "more." We are all so excited!

Another smart girl!! Look out Steve, 4 females a-talking soon...maybe ASL is an even BETTER way to communicate, huh? Good thing you are a good listener, Steve!
